The brief involves the repurposing and extending of a large detached Victorian dwelling to accommodate Bromley Mencap’s new headquarters which comprises office space; meeting rooms; visible reception; and accessible facilities for the benefit of the wider community service users.
To the rear of the existing dwelling a new dedicated community services centre provides training facilities, large training kitchen, focussed study spaces, meeting rooms and changing facilities for the wider community.
Set within a generous green site on the outskirts of Bromley, the new interventions to the existing building and separate community services building have been carefully designed so that they sit comfortably and nestle within the existing landscape. Extensive green roofs have been incorporated to all new building elements, while two tone vertical timber boards clad the new outbuilding.
A landscaping scheme binds the existing and new together and addresses the changing site topography to create a level access solution across the site.
