9 Down Barn Close
Located just outside Winterbourne Gunner in Wiltshire, the existing single storey, three bedroom bungalow was in need of modernisation. The brief was to demolish the existing side extension and rebuild with a new, modern, side and rear extension that would double the footprint of the existing house.

Replicating the geometry of the existing massing, the new form creates a cruciform of accommodation extending to the rear and front at ground floor level, with bedroom accommodation within the roof space, spanning across.
A large 6m wide sliding door frames the view out across the Wiltshire countryside from the open plan kitchen and dining space. Double height voids are carved out within the massing to create a visual connection between ground and first floor and flood the circulation spaces with natural light.
Zinc cladding provides a contemporary contrast to the existing clay tiled roof, whilst a green roof to the rear extension helps to attenuate rain water and provide a softer outlook which merges with the landscape beyond.
