Kent House Road
Kent House Road is a unique extension in Beckenham. We were approached by the client to rethink the existing ground floor kitchen space and extension which was tired and in need of replacing.

The new extension projects out further than the existing façade with a unique form that responds to the geometrically irregular boundary condition, wrapping back around to replace the existing extension.
This intervention creates additional internal space which allowed the existing ground floor footprint to be completely opened up. Within this newly created space the kitchen, dining and living area can be combined.
A feature island provides a focal point within the space alongside 3 large rooflights which scoop in the sunlight as it tracks around the site during the day.
The form of the extension in plan and elevation creates a sculpted internal space, which benefits from a large picture window and full height cranked glazed screen.
These frame the external garden and adjoining terrace while providing additional daylight and natural ventilation into the internal environment.
A London Stock brick, to match the existing dwelling, with feature bonded brickwork, is used on the extension to sympathetically contrast but compliment the existing Victorian period property.
Bold and complementary colours are used internally with a bronze coloured sink set into the olive green kitchen units. A herringbone timber floor runs through the ground floor linking the old and new parts of the house.
A Crittall style glazed screen divides the kitchen and hallway, creating a new visual connection from the front door through to the reconfigured kitchen and existing garden.
