73 Clive Road

Rear extension showing view from garden - Marjoram Architects 72 Clive Road project

73 Clive Road is a modest but beautifully crafted extension to a Victorian terrace house in West Dulwich. The brief was to provide an extension to the existing kitchen space that improved flow and outlook onto the garden.

Corner sliding doors and a cantilevered roof, create a column less corner with uninterrupted views to the rear garden. Large format porcelain tiles create the illusion of the outside and inside being one.

The projecting roof form is clad with charred timber cladding, in two sizes, and arranged as vertical boarding. This wraps around into the soffit where it is mitred at the corner junction to create a seamless change of direction.

Internally the existing side window was replaced with a much larger aperture to form a window seat with bespoke plywood joinery. Within the new extension, a bespoke birch plywood joinery bench provides integrated storage and seating.
