College Road
Located in the charming seaside town of Deal, the brief was to redevelop an unassuming terrace house on the outskirts of the Conservation Area. Retaining the existing street facing facade, the proposed design rethinks the internal environment completely extending out to the rear with a contemporary single storey extension.

At ground floor the floor is lowered to create more generous headroom and is linked to the existing upper floor with an open timber finned staircase.
Internally, materials are used in an honest way to create a warm and contemporary environment which is flooded with natural daylight.
A polished concrete floor is complimented with exposed painted brickwork, exposed Douglas Fir joists and a bespoke plywood kitchen.
A large feature picture window with integrated bespoke joinery creates a strong visual connection to a newly formed outside courtyard.
The existing staircase was reoriented and replaced with a bespoke Douglas Fir stair with open vertical balusters which rise out of the polished concrete floor and continue up and around the first floor landing.
On the upper levels the material palette becomes more traditional with exposed existing floor boards and replacement timber sash windows.
The first floor bathroom to the rear reverts to the contemporary ground floor palette with exposed joists, plywood joinery, stippled rubber flooring and a large obscured window to create a light and airy space.
